Privacy Policy

EmpowerLit Schools ("EmpowerLit," "we," "us") provides a literacy engagement platform for teachers, school administrators, and students. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to schools, teachers, and families.

This policy applies to visitors of our public website and to teachers and school administrators who use the EmpowerLit platform on behalf of a participating school.

We currently collect account information for teachers and school administrators, such as name, email, and school affiliation. We also collect student information submitted by teachers as part of a magazine submission: student first name, grade, school, the submitted work itself, submission type, the issue and theme, and submission status. Our website also uses general visitor analytics, described below. We do not currently collect a student's last name.

We use submitted information to operate the platform, to review and process magazine submissions, and to communicate with teachers and school administrators. Selected student work may be published publicly in the format described in our Student Data Privacy page.

Our website uses basic visitor analytics provided by our hosting platform, Lovable, which may store an anonymous visitor identifier and general session information, such as pages viewed, to help us understand how the site is used.

With your consent, we also use Google Analytics 4 on our public website. Google Analytics uses cookies to measure how visitors use public pages, such as which pages are viewed and which buttons are clicked. Analytics is limited to public website activity: it is never used inside the signed-in EmpowerLit platform, including teacher, school administrator, lesson, sign-in, or invitation pages, and we do not send names, school names, student information, or account identifiers to Google. Advertising features are turned off, and we do not use analytics for advertising or targeted tracking. Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months. Some emails from EmpowerLit Schools contain a tracked link. When that link is opened, we record that it was used, the time, and basic browser information. We do not record your IP address with this information. If you accept analytics cookies, we also confirm that the page loaded in your browser and record which of our pricing, sample and Schedule a Conversation pages were viewed during the 30 minutes after the link was opened, using a short-lived cookie. If you decline, no outreach cookie is set. We do not use this information to identify returning visitors, and it is used only to understand whether our outreach is helpful.

When you first visit our public website, a banner asks whether you accept or decline Google Analytics cookies. Google Analytics does not load unless you choose Accept. If you decline, Google Analytics is not loaded. Your choice is stored in your browser. You can change it at any time using the Cookie Settings link in the website footer.

We do not sell personal information. We share information only as needed to operate the platform, such as with the hosting services that run our website and platform, or when required by law.

We keep information only for as long as reasonably needed to operate the platform, manage submissions, meet school requests, and satisfy applicable business or legal obligations. Schools may contact us to request deletion or removal.

Participating in the EmpowerLit magazine is optional, and submitted work is published only if it is selected during review. Schools and parents may request removal of published student work at any time using our Data Removal Request page.

Participating schools are responsible for following the school or district policies and permission requirements applicable to them before submitting student work for possible publication. EmpowerLit handles submitted information according to the practices described in this Privacy Policy and our Student Data Privacy page.

We may update this policy from time to time. The most current version will always be available on this page.
